Framing is an investment worth making

A well-chosen frame enhances the look of an artwork without stealing the show. In some cases, framing done correctly is even essential to keep the work as close to its original condition as possible. Such artworks include prints, watercolours, charcoal drawings and various chalk drawings. These works are always protected behind glass. Handicrafts, such as cross-stitch and canvas work, are also often framed with glass so the piece does not gather dust.

With oil paintings, framing is technically at its simplest, since paintings are rarely covered with glass.

Good framing brings out the work and highlights its character in a way that lasts and preserves its value.

We expertly frame all kinds of paintings, posters and photographs, as well as various certificates and mirrors, of course. We also repair pictures.

We always use high-quality materials that look striking and protect the work. In framing we use only acid-free and conservation-grade mounts and backing boards, so that they do not change shape themselves and potentially damage the work. The dust-protection tape we use on the backing is also acid-free and safe.

Digital retouching of old pictures

Is an old picture scratched, faded or otherwise damaged in some way? Don't worry, we can digitise the picture and restore it to new, even better-than-original glory. We can print the picture on a range of materials, such as canvas that resembles painting cloth, photo paper, or a fully matte paper.

We have successfully repaired even completely torn pictures where some of the pieces were still stuck to the glass. We also retouch and enlarge old photographs on many kinds of material. To digitise a picture we use either a high-quality scanner or photograph it in our studio. Once the picture is in digital form, almost any kind of correction can be made to it.

Almost anything can be framed, and we have indeed framed all kinds of paintings, posters and prints, flowers and handicrafts, textiles and sports jerseys, maps and mirrors, LP records and handicrafts.

When you bring the work to be framed into the shop, we'll look together at which frame suits it best. We listen to your wishes and your budget so that the work gets the best possible framing. Depending on the work and how it is to be framed, alongside the frames you also get to choose your preferred mount board and glass. The accompanying picture gives you a quick overview of our frame and mount-board range.

Our range includes about 200 different frames, 30 different mount shades (mount board), and as glass we offer clear as well as invisible UV-protection glass. As an alternative, we also have clear acrylic plexiglass to order. We also stretch paintings and mount pictures as needed. In the shop's studio you can at the same time renew your passport photo or have almost any photo or interior-decor product made from your pictures.

An oil painting is finished off with a frame

If the work is already stretched onto a wooden stretcher, you only need to choose a frame that suits it.

If the painting has been bought as plain canvas, the frame is chosen first and your art framer carries out the stretching before framing.

Watercolours, pastels, prints and photographs are framed behind glass

The work is always covered with glass, but in such a way that it does not touch the work itself directly.

In addition to the frame, the customer chooses the mount board placed between the work and the glass (passe-partout board, commonly called a mount), available in almost every possible shade.

If no mount is used, a so-called spacer strip is placed between the work and the glass so that the glass does not touch the work itself.

A protective board is placed behind the work, which keeps the work straight and smooth while also protecting it from dust and moisture variations.

Photographs can also be protective-laminated instead of using glass. In that case no mount is used. Available in a soft-touch finish or glossy lamination. The lamination roll is 42 cm wide, with no limit on length.

Objects in a display case

In principle, almost anything can be framed, as long as it fits inside the frame. In our current range, the deepest frame fits a work up to 2 cm thick. If two frames are stacked on top of each other, a work up to 4.5 cm thick fits inside the frame.

A child's first clothes, a sports jersey, an old LP record, flowers, the wine-bottle corks collected over a year, important travel souvenirs or even old tools.

The only limit on framing objects is their thickness (preferably under 2 or 4 cm depending on the framing method). The objects are framed and most often they too are protected with glass against dust. You can always come and ask whether framing would work for the object you have in mind. We're sure to come up with a solution even for a tricky case.

Handicrafts and how to frame them

It's best to bring handicrafts to the framing shop as cloth, as stretching them at home is quite difficult without the proper tools.

Handicrafts are framed in the same way as watercolours and prints, so that the work does not gather dust. With handicrafts, however, the requirement for surface glass is not absolute in terms of preservation.

A handicraft can also be framed without glass, stretched onto a backing board and framed. Even so, surface glass keeps a handicraft looking beautiful considerably longer.
